Precious, semi-precious stones carving and processing factory stops activity in Badakhshan

Extraction and transportation ban of precious and semi-precious stones in Badakhshan has caused a carving and processing factory of precious and semi-precious stones to be stopped in the province.

Officials of precious and semi-precious stones union in Badakhshan say that when precious and semi-precious stones were extracted in Faizabad city, tens of Badakhshan residents were busy working in washing, processing, polishing, and carving the stones, but after banning trade and transportation of these stones, they closed doors of the stones processing factory.

Hedayatullah Hakimi, Head of precious and semi-precious stones union in Badakhshan says that all respective offices were informed about closure of the factory via a letter and the factory was formally closed.

Mr. Hakimi says until two years back, besides providing jobs for tens of men and women in the province, they would sell products of the factory to Turkey, Iran, and Dubai.

Abdul Hasib Daqiq, Badakhshan Economy Department Chairman, on the other hand says the local government has confirmed transfer of 500kg stones per month to the union to avoid closure of precious and semi-precious stones carving and processing factory.
