Officials at Badakhshan Public Health Department say they are trying to build additional addiction treatment centers in the border districts and downtown Badakhshan to fight effectively with the phenomenon of addiction.

Dr. Noushin Gohar Karimi, Deputy Chief at Badakhshan Public Health Department reveals there are currently four drug addiction treatment centers in the province, but it is not sufficient, and they are trying to establish another center in either Ishkashim or Wakhan district.

Deputy Chief of Badakhshan Public Health Department states that they have received reports from Ishkashim indicating the number of female and male addicts in border districts is on the rise, and health department of the province is striving to build a ten-to-fifteen-bed center in either Ishkashim or Wakhan district and a five-to-ten-bed center in the border of Badakhshan.

Ms. Karimi says that there is only one women's addiction treatment center in Badakhshan, which is not enough to meet the needs of addicted women, and the necessity to create a special center for women is tangible.
