Breshna Sherkat launched a public dialog named “Knowing is your right” in presence of officials from Breshna Sherkat, local officials of Balkh and people in Mazar-e Sharif city and problems of Balkh residents regarding prices of electricity was discussed in this dialog.
In the discussion, Balkh residents complained about electricity prices being high and asked for reconsideration of prices. They stated that cost of every kilowatt of electricity in Mazar-e Sharif is 6.25 AFN, while prices in other provinces are lower and that they are unable to pay such money.
Mohammad Ishaq Rahgozar, Provincial Governor of Balkh said that six districts in Balkh are deprived from electricity. He demanded for distribution of electricity to these districts and asked Breshna Sherkat to lessen prices in Balkh province.
On the other hand, Amanullah Ghalib, Chief of Breshna Sherkat in Afghanistan mentioned that the country’s electricity is imported and that they have a lot challenges. He added that he will try to solve people’s problem from high energy costs, but didn’t promise to decrease the prices.
This happens while, on multiple occasions, residents of Balkh province have whined over high energy costs by protesting, but officials of Breshna Sherkat haven’t solved this problem yet and the questions “when will energy costs in the province decrease?” will only be answered as time passes.
